Atlanta welcomed members of the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) for the September Chapter Meeting at the Beverly Hall Showroom. Bryan Marquardt, the lead kitchen designer at LUBE of Atlanta, attended the meeting. Marquardt and other members enjoyed food, wine and networking before hearing guest speakers, Sharron Zimmerman and Howard Shaddock.
Sharron Zimmerman, long time IFDA member, board member and showroom manager of Beverly Hall, introduced the members to the design program at Beverly Hall. The design program allows for commissions to be paid to designers who bring their clients to Beverly Hall whether the purchase is made through the designer or directly by the client. Beverly Hall also covers freight in from the manufacturer, runs its own receiving warehouse and white glove delivery service and provides a lifetime warranty on products purchased.
Following chapter announcements, Howard Shaddock, the furniture historian at Maitland Smith, gave a fascinating history of how furniture was designed as a collaborative process between customer and artisan, and how those practices and designs are seen today. Shaddock used several furniture and accessory examples to illustrate his points.
